Elizabethan Mole by Weatherduck Elizabethan Mole by Weatherduck
Following the IMMENSE popularity of the Poppy Pig weatherduck.deviantart.com/art/Poppy-Pig-81773939 , I thought I'd paint another old-fashioned rodent.

There's an anachronism here: the Mole is clearly Elizabethan, but the boiled sweets are not... 1708? Ooops! But that's OK, because maybe he's just a very, very old Mole who doesn't keep up with the fashions...

Also, the complete label should read 'Ye Olde Boiled Sweets', in case anyone was wondering.

Love this. Your style is very fluid and whimsical, but also very detailed. It's a difficult balance to strike for many. Great work!: )

Aww this is so cute. :) I'm not to clear on where your light source is, I'm assuming its in the top right. If so, the shadows behind the candy could be emphasized a bit more. Also, some of the tones in the mole could be lightened. It looks like the candy is kind of just floating in the jar. I think you were trying to just make it look like the glass on the bottom is kinda thick. It's understandable, but doesn't really look like it. :)

Thankyou so much for your pickiness! =D I wish I could show you the originals of this and the sphinx. My scanner always overdoes or underdoes the contrast, resulting in the over-darkness of the mole, the over-intenseness of the hair/smoke in the sphinx. Everything's much more subtle in the originals.

As for lighting, I definitely agree with you. Every object tends to have it's own unique light source in my paintings!

Scanners = evil XD I completely understand. Maybe you could edit it in photoshop or something, just to lighten/darken it up when needed?

Maybe they're magical :giggle:

Oh, I do edit in photoshop. But another thing is I have to scan multiple images and then stitch them together, and after I've done that, I just can't be bothered doing much else to them :hmm:. The sphinx took 7 scans, you know. =D
