OK, longest description I’ve ever typed =)

Hello! This is Abimelech. My graphic-novel-in-progress has undergone some gargantuan improvements since I first dreamt it up when I was 16, but Abimelech has always stayed the same, anchoring the story in such a way that makes it uniquely mine. I just love him! =D And it’s high time I put up a painting of him so others can enjoy his yellowness too.

I shan’t go into his role much right now, as my story (The BAD Faery Cycle) is still top secret, and probably will be for a few years to come. But what I will say is this: Abimelech is the Archdruid of Huddendudden, an underground city peopled by colourful fungus-coated environmentalists like himself. Huddendudden is located in the human world of Pleasance, the rest of which is sadly dominated by a tyrannical cosmetics industry that has blinded much of the human race. All they now care about is clothes and plastic surgery. Only Abimelech and his followers hold fast to the original duty appointed to men and women ― to keep the world alive ― and for that, they are steadily being annihilated by Blot, the beautiful Forn whose flare for fashion has enslaved Pleasance. Why does this matter? Because, as only Blot’s enemies are aware, the state of the human world is what determines the well-being of every other dimension in existence. If Pleasance falls, so do all the Liminal (or in-between) Worlds, where beings such as the adorable sloth in Abimelech’s pocket reside. In short, humans hold the heart of the universe in their hands, but they just don’t give a damn! Hmmm, you may think I’m giving a lot away here, but I’m not. This is just the bare bones of a much deeper, quirkier tale you’ll just have to wait a while to hear in full. But mark my words, Abimelech’s struggle is made all the more impossible when Blot hires his most stunning model yet: the BAD FAERY.

And yes, there IS an important reason why I don’t spell it ‘faun’.

Well, it has been three weeks since I told my beloved watchers that I’d upload this painting ‘tonight’. For me, this has brought into question what ‘tonight’ actually means… I do kinda have an excuse though: UNI!!!! My goodness… I hadn’t the slightest idea I’d have so much homework to do in the first week alone. I even had an oral presentation due in week two! Pfffffft… but uni’s awesome nonetheless. Actually, I feel that it’s because of the friends I’ve made at uni that I was able to paint this character so well. You see, this exact image of him has been sitting fully-formed in my brain for the past five years, during which I have attempted to capture him many times with paint and always failed miserably ― until now. This is my first GOOD painting of Abimelech. In fact, I declare it my first GOOD painting of any character from my story (I’ll post some of my lousier attempts so you can see what I mean). So I’m actually very excited right now. For the first time ever, I’ve done one of my own characters justice! HA HA HA HA HAAA ARRG!! And why is this so? Well obviously, my technique has improved because I’m always practicing, but I truly believe the main reason is, as I said, my new environment, which is probably the most exciting thing of all: for the first time ever, I am surrounded 100% by creative people! True, most are creative in very different areas to me, but that doesn’t matter!! The point is, all those shallow insecure ultra-boring systematized fashion-zombies who made my past life hell are long gone, and everyone I talk to now has a wonderful mind of their own. It is very, very inspiring…

…. AND SO I SHOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS PAINTING TO THE FRIENDS I'VE MADE AT UNI SO FAR. Sadly, I can’t remember all your names, even though I can still count you all on two hands… but if you are reading this, then I’m sure you know who you are!

In particular, I dedicate this to *fi3ndish and ~miss-palindrome for watching me, and also choosing to talk to me out of all the people they could have chosen to talk to when classes started. Sorry if this is somewhat weirdly full-on, but if you knew how lonely I have been for the past year, I think you’d understand.

And salutations to Ema also!

© This image belongs to Andrew Humphreys (a.k.a. Weatherduck), and it is absolutely prohibited for others to use it in any way. Also, don’t you dare steal the ideas in my story, because frankly, I can tell it much better than anyone else, ‘coz it came from MY BRAIN, NOT YOURS!! If you plagiarise, the Foosa will gobble you with their mouths.

"But-but people could have been killed!"
"Oh yes. I daresay that's quite likely! It's really very difficult to be a murderer without killing people from time to time you know," -Erik

Aww, can't wait to see more characters (or are some of your posted charas also part of the story? It must be amazing, tell me please if you publish it or sth similar o.o).

Thankyou!

I consider this the 'first' character from my story to appear on dA. Technically, the one I did of Betel last year is the first, but I've disregarded that painting because it didn't do her justice. I know much more about anatomy now, so my next Betel will look good, I think.

Also, the Cat of Mirth is a minor character. He is a powerful figure in the Liminal Worlds. If I used more old-fashioned language, I would say he's one of Abimelech's familiars. Thanks for being interested!
